Câu Tường Thuật Tiếng Anh A-Z

Tổng hợp câu tường thuật trong tiếng Anh: quy tắc đổi thì, đổi đại từ, đổi trạng từ chỉ thời gian, nơi chốn. Bài tập chi tiết có đáp án.

Câu tường thuật là gì?

• Câu trực tiếp (Direct Speech): Thuật lại chính xác lời nói của ai đó, đặt trong dấu ngoặc kép.
  Ví dụ: She said, “I am tired.”
• Câu tường thuật (Reported Speech): Thuật lại ý của lời nói, không dùng dấu ngoặc kép, thường thay đổi thì và từ ngữ cho phù hợp với ngữ cảnh.
  Ví dụ: She said that she was tired.

Các thay đổi khi chuyển sang câu tường thuật

Thay đổi về thì của động từ (khi động từ tường thuật ở quá khứ – said, told, asked…)

Hiện tại đơn	Quá khứ đơn	“I work hard.” → He said he worked hard.

Quá khứ đơn	Quá khứ hoàn thành	“I bought a car.” → She said she had bought a car.
Quá khứ tiếp diễn	Quá khứ hoàn thành tiếp diễn	“I was sleeping.” → He said he had been sleeping.
Hiện tại hoàn thành tiếp diễn	Quá khứ hoàn thành tiếp diễn	“I have been waiting.” → She said she had been waiting.
Tương lai (will)	Would	“I will call you.” → He said he would call me.
can	could	“I can swim.” → She said she could swim.
may	might	“It may rain.” → He said it might rain.
must / have to	had to	“I must go.” → She said she had to go.
shall	should	“I shall come.” → He said he should come.

Lưu ý quan trọng:

• Nếu động từ tường thuật ở hiện tại (says, says to me, tells me) → không lùi thì.
  He says, “I am busy.” → He says that he is busy.
• Câu trực tiếp diễn tả sự thật hiển nhiên, chân lý, thói quen → không lùi thì.
  The teacher said, “The sun rises in the east.” → The teacher said that the sun rises in the east.

Thay đổi về đại từ, tính từ sở hữu

• “I love my mother,” she said. → She said that she loved her mother.
• “You should see your doctor,” he told me. → He told me that I should see my doctor.

Ví dụ:

• “I will come tomorrow,” she said. → She said she would come the next day.
• “I met him yesterday,” he said. → He said he had met him the day before.

S + told + O (that) + S + V (lùi thì)

Lưu ý: said có thể dùng không cần tân ngữ; told bắt buộc có tân ngữ (told me/him/her/them).

Tường thuật câu hỏi

S + asked + (O) + if / whether + S + V (lùi thì)

(Bỏ dấu hỏi, bỏ trợ động từ do/does/did, đưa về câu khẳng định)

“Are you tired?” she asked.	She asked whether I was tired.
“Did you see him?” they asked.	They asked if I had seen him.

Mẹo: if và whether gần như thay thế được nhau, nhưng whether trang trọng hơn.

Câu hỏi có từ để hỏi (Wh-questions)

S + asked + (O) + Wh-word + S + V (lùi thì)

(Không đảo ngữ chủ ngữ – động từ như câu hỏi trực tiếp)

Tường thuật câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu, lời khuyên

S + told/asked/ordered/advised + O + to V (nguyên mẫu)
Phủ định: S + told + O + not + to V

Phủ định	“Don’t touch that,” she said.	She told me not to touch that.

Chú ý: said to → told (bắt buộc có tân ngữ)

Tường thuật lời đề nghị, gợi ý

Tường thuật câu cảm thán, lời chúc, lời xin lỗi

Các trường hợp KHÔNG lùi thì trong câu tường thuật

Trường hợp	Ví dụ
Động từ tường thuật ở hiện tại	He says, “I am busy.” → He says he is busy.
Câu nói thể hiện sự thật hiển nhiên	The teacher said, “Water boils at 100°C.” → …water boils at 100°C.
Câu nói vừa xảy ra	She just said, “I don’t like it.” → She just said she doesn’t like it.
Câu điều kiện loại 2, 3 (giữ nguyên)	“If I were you, I would go,” he said. → He said if he were me, he would go.
Câu có wish, would rather, it’s time	“I wish I were taller,” she said. → She said she wished she were taller.
